Employment Support Programme
A 6 Months Package: offering 2 hours face-to-face support per week. Up to additional 2 hours non-contact work such as job broking, liaising with employers, communicating by text, email and use of resources at weekly Job Club – all delivered in British Sign Language / Sign Supported English.
Main Activities
- Introductory meeting and profiling
- Identifying job goals
- CV Building Session
- One to one reviews once or twice a month, backed up with action plans
- Weekly Job Club
- Signposting to other services
- Life Skills
- Finding work experience or placement
Job Interview Mentoring
This is an out of office service where an Employment advisor will accompany the job seeker to job interview. The advantages of this service are:
- Provide deaf awareness to employers
- Give advice and reassurance to employers
- After several interviews, instill confidence in the jobseeker.
Deaf BSL users’ effective learning style are based on hands-on approach and require visual examples and prompting.
Support @ Work Experience/Placement
This standalone service is for individuals who specifically want a work experience placement or support in one they have setup. This involves
- Providing a workplace assessment
- Providing innovative solutions to overcome the communication barriers
- Identifying effective strategies to carry out duties
- Provide access for 1st day’s induction
- Regular checkups on the work placement progress.
- This will lasts typically up to 2 days
Preparing Access to Work package
This standalone service is for individuals who have secured a job and need a support plan for the new workplace. This involves
- A workplace assessment or survey – using information from job duties’ description
- Identify any health and safety issues and come up with solutions
- Establish the frequency of support required
- Provide advice on Access to Work application and its supporting statement
- Additional admin work and information collation
